Ed is the author of four books on law firm management including Looking Tall by Standing Next to Short People, Creating Dominance: Winning Strategies for Law Firms, and The First Great Myth of Legal Management is That It Exists. In addition to having published over 100 articles, Ed is a frequent speaker and the author of a monthly email message that is read by thousands of law firm leaders around the world.
He holds a Masters of Public Administration degree with Honors from Roosevelt University and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Valparaiso University. Ed has served on the adjunct faculties of a number of law and graduate schools of business including the Case Western Reserve School of Law, the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public and International Affairs, the Carnegie Mellon School of Public Affairs and the Gordon Institute of Graduate Business School of the University of Pretoria, South Africa.
An avid but mediocre golfer, Ed and his wife Janice live in Savannah, Georgia.
Melissa Holyoak is a consultant with our firm who works primarily with law firms in connection with various strategic issues, including business structure and practice development. Providing research and analysis, Melissa assists in the development and implementation of strategies and soluctions. Melissa practiced at a large law firm for five years and her practice focused on commercial litigation where she appeared in trial and appellate matters in state and federal court. Melissa lives in Columbia, Missouri
Melissa Hogan is a consultant with our firm who specializes in a variety of strategic client decisions at both firm-wide and practice-specific levels, including mergers and acquisitions and strategic planning. She also collaborates with our researchers in the data compilation process. She is an Order of the Coif graduate from the University of Pittsburgh law school and she spent a number of years as a corporate and securities attorney of a top Tennessee law firm. She has also clerked for the US Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, taught law school and graduate courses, and published articles on securities and health care regulatory matters. Melissa resides in Nashville, Tennessee.
